After-hours call answering

After-hours call answering for pet groomers.

A call after closing can be a question about services, a requested appointment or a change the team needs to review tomorrow. With the right forwarding setup, Spikey AI can answer those inbound calls and save the request without making your staff available around the clock.

Set the right expectation at the start

Keep your business hours and callback expectations accurate in your agent instructions. An assistant can collect a request after closing, but that does not mean a groomer is on duty or that someone will respond immediately. Use a callback window your team can realistically meet.

Callers speak with an AI assistant, not a person. Customers who prefer another contact method should be able to use the public non-AI contact channel your business provides.

Choose when calls reach the assistant

Conditional forwarding sends unanswered calls to your dedicated Spikey number while allowing your phone to ring first. Some business phone systems also offer schedules. Your carrier or phone-system administrator can confirm which options your service supports; Spikey does not set your carrier's routing schedule for you.

Test the exact situation you want to cover, including calling after closing and letting the line go unanswered. Busy and unreachable conditions may need their own setup. Save your original voicemail routing so you can restore it later.

Start the next day with the next action

Review Needs action in Calls when you reopen. The caller's request helps you decide whether to return a call, answer a service question or arrange an appointment. Check the conversation details if the summary is unclear, then mark the request handled when the work is complete.

For example, a caller may ask for a Saturday afternoon groom while you are closed on Friday evening. That request belongs in your follow-up queue. Even if a connected calendar appeared free during the call, your team must recheck the schedule and confirm the appointment.

Keep a practical fallback

Phone providers, internet services and AI systems can experience interruptions. Monitor connection warnings and make occasional test calls. The outage announcement is not a staffed answering service and does not take a message. Keep another published way to contact your business.

Pausing AI answering affects new calls and does not cancel your subscription or restore carrier voicemail. Callers reaching the paused service hear its pause announcement. If you want them to reach your regular voicemail instead, change the forwarding at your provider and test the result.

Common questions

Can callers leave requests outside opening hours?

When your service is active and your phone routing sends the call to Spikey, the assistant can collect a request outside your business hours. Carrier routing, account status, usage limits and service availability still apply.

Does this provide emergency support?

No. Spikey is for routine business inquiries and callback requests. It does not provide emergency response, veterinary advice or a guarantee that a staff member will see a request immediately.

Can I make forwarding happen only at night?

That depends on your business phone system. Ask your carrier or administrator about scheduled routing. You can also use conditional forwarding for unanswered calls throughout the day, so your team still has the first chance to answer.
